Sanchal Foundation was established in 1980 to promote, foster, aid, and assist research for the extension of knowledge in the fields of natural, social and applied sciences and allied fields, especially for the advancement of the poor in rural and urban areas.
After 16 years of experience with projects for these objects and based on the nature of requests received from poor communities, the Board of Sanchal Foundation set up the Hazards Centre in 1997 as a specialised institution to respond to their technical and professional requirements, for which no other consultancy group appeared to exist.
The Hazards Centre is a professional support group and resource centre based in Delhi. has evolved a participatory methodology which responds to a vulnerable community’s expressed needs by a process of consultation, identification, quantification, analysis, project evolution, advocacy, implementation, and extension, that is best illustrated by the following process diagram:
